Every song I release is born the same way.
If I am the father, then life is the mother.
They come into this world out of something I’ve lived or experienced. Out of emotion, or pain, or grief, or love, or loss – all those human places that we all see at some point in our lives. Sometimes it’s a hook, sometimes it’s a verse or chorus, sometimes it’s just a feeling that won’t leave me alone until I develop it and give it air to breathe.
What you hear in my music is real reflection, real heartbreak, real hope. I used to be one of those guys who hid from the world. The kind that mistook vulnerability for weakness. To any who haven’t figured this out – I promise you they’re not the same thing. I’m no longer afraid to bare my soul to the world. And I’m not here to give you some perfectly polished version of my life.
Life isn’t perfect. It’s lived in. Messy. Honest. But that’s what makes it life.
And that realness, that truth – is what brings humanity to the things we create.
The lyrics and structure always come from me. But to bring the songs to life, I use modern AI tools to assist with instrumentation, arrangement, and vocals. I look at these tools the way a musician might look at a bandmate or producer – they help to shape the sound, but they didn’t write the song. In my opinion, you don’t press a button and get a masterpiece – even in the era of AI. Like any artist, you must iteratively work towards a vision. Sometimes the tools don’t get it right, and you end up having to take bits or pieces and fit them together until you find the way they resonate for you. I go to a lot of effort to attempt to make sure the tools do the right thing, more about that here. I am not looking to infringe on anyone’s creative works; my goal is to use technology to tell a story that I wouldn’t be able to tell otherwise and create something new, and meaningful to me. Everything I release is properly licensed for commercial use and I have filed copyrights on.
