We Share A Heart
A Reggae Song about Shared Grief.
by manyface music
We Share A Heart is about shared grief after a family loses someone.
I was at a concert when I got a call about my brother.
Everything just…stopped.
I remember walking out, trying to process it, telling myself it would be okay – that maybe it wasn’t as bad as it sounded.
But it was.
There’s a kind of numbness that hits in moments like that. Not even full sadness at first, just silence. Like your body doesn’t know how to catch up to what is happening.
This song came later, in trying to make sense of that feeling. Not just my own grief, but everyone else’s too. Because that’s something you don’t really think about at first – how every person who loved them carries a different version of the same loss.
Different memories. Different last moments. Different things they wish they said. But underneath all that…it’s the same love.
That’s where the title came from.
We Share A Heart.
Not in the sense that we feel everything the exact same way, but in the sense that we’re all connected through what the person meant to us.
"Oh, I been up and down this coast. There ain't a beach that's the same without ya."

We Share A Heart Lyrics - Manyface Music
[Verse 1]
I lit this fire, watched it burn,
Askin' why it was your turn.
But the smoke just curls,
and slips away -
like all the words,
I didn't say.
[Chorus]
Though we're apart,
We share a heart,
I sit and look,
At this bright star -
And wonder if that one is you.
[Verse 2]
They lit a candle, watched it burn.
Prayin' that you might return.
But the smoke just curls,
and slips away -
like all the words,
they didn't say.
And you can see it there - behind their eyes.
The love,
and weight of loss they cannot hide.
[Chorus]
Though we're apart,
We share a heart,
They sit and look,
At this bright star -
And wonder if that one is you.
[Bridge]
So -
One more toke, one more toast,
one more tear that no one posts.
Oh, I been up and down this coast -
There ain't a beach that's the same without ya.
So I float...
with your ghost,
Like I'm in this tide,
ridin' the surf 'n thinkin' 'bout ya.
[Outro]
And though we're apart,
We share a heart,
We sit beneath,
The same bright stars -
And we know that one of them is you.
